Neil Carmichael welcomes Grow Gloucestershire Investment
As part of Grow Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire County Council is investing £100 million into Gloucestershire's Future. The money will be invested in better skills, infrastructure and homes for the county's young people, businesses and the general community. Neil Carmichael has warmly welcomed this economic investment particularly as he gets ready to celebrate the area's industrial roots and its future with the Festival of Engineering taking place between April 23rd-27th.
The County Council plans to invest £7.5 million in superfast broadband in rural areas over a period of two years (2012/2013 - 2013/2014) which also echoes another of Neil's campaign.
Some of the events at The Festival of Engineering are aimed at specifically engaging young people in engineering and manufacturing and encouraging apprentices. Therefore it is highly relevant that Gloucestershire County Council is planning on investing £1 million of this package into an opportunity fund for young people and local businesses to create work experience, employer sponsored university programmes and apprentices as well as establishing 25 apprentices at the Council and developing skills in order to improve young people's future employability.
Neil Carmichael said: "I fully support this new investment and I feel it is necessary to develop Gloucestershire's future in the community and businesses as well as young people. This investment resonates with the Festival of Engineering and Manufacturing in that it is developing our young people and our businesses."
